Mr Thami Mabitja is the current acting head of the Northern Cape Provincial Treasury. He holds a Master in Business Leadership and currently finalizing another Masters in Public Administration.
Mr Mabitja has extensive experience in serving the Northern Cape Provincial Government Administration and has gone through all the ranks to acquire skills and knowledge. He started his career in 1997 as an accounting clerk and progressed to the level of financial controller at the Premiers’Office. He was later appointed as Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works.
His financial knowledge, strong analytical and leadership skills are several leadership positions that saw him win the award for the Best Presented Annual Report for two consecutive years, namely 2009/10 and 2010/11 financial years by SAIGA. As Chief Financial Officer for the Free State Provincial Treasury he achieved a Clean Audit Status for 5 conservative years.
During his tenure as acting Deputy Director General for Asset & Liabilities at the Free State Provincial Treasury he achieved Level 4 for the Management Performance Assessment Tool (MPAT), which is a methodology used to assess quality of management practices. This achievement was chosen and recorded as best practice by Wits University.
He championed the alignment of the Infrastructure Development Management System for the Free State and led the development of the Supply Chain Tool Kit both for provincial departments and municipalities as well as the extension of the Centralized Supplier Database to municipalities
He returned to the Northern Cape Province in 2016 as Chief Director for Asset & Liabilities responsible for managing and overseeing provincial cash management which includes Investments and Banking, Provincial Physical Asset Monitoring, Provincial Infrastructure Management, driving the Infrastructure Delivery Management Services (IDMS) and implementing Provincial Supply Chain Management (SCM) reforms and doing oversight in the province.
He is regarded as one of the province’s most influential yet low-profile administrators, a strategist of note, humble but hard-working leader. The qualities which qualified him to lead the Northern Cape Provincial Treasury as acting HOD.
